My Biggest Blogging Regret

Note this post has been modified from it’s original version, but the original point remains.

I feel torn about writing this post. Blogging has always been one of my main ways of connecting with the world, but over the past six months, I’ve been so focused on writing posts on how conflicted I feel about blogging. Over the past year I’ve contemplated shutting down my blog.

Much is made about how bloggers carefully curate their lives online, often choosing to avoid talking about the hard things. It’s much easier to write about wedding details and vacations than it is to talk about divorce and heartbreak. But by sharing the good things, I felt like I was agreeing to share the bad as well.

I’ll be entirely honest in saying that I’ve been contemplating shutting down this blog for at least a year now. I really do feel so different from the person who started this blog. Just looking back over my posts from this year, it’s pretty clear that I don’t feel the same way as when I started back in 2010. When I started this blog, my sister Jillian asked how long I would keep it up. I replied, “Until it’s not fun anymore.” I’m sad to say that blogging over the past year has not been fun on the whole. I wish I could say my heart was in this blog, but it’s just not.

I’ll make a post by Friday updating everyone on what will happen and where you can find me, so there won’t be an abrupt end. Because, let’s be honest, I’ll never stop blogging, I just may stop blogging here. I’ll let you all know what I decide to do after I spend some time thinking. I think I just need to take a break, regroup and come back when I’m ready. Don’t worry, though, I’ll definitely keep you all in the loop as to what I decide.
