“Annie” Is Better Than Before

(dropcap)If(/dropcap) you’re looking for the feel good movie of the year, you might want to run – not walk – to the remake of Annie. It was originally a Broadway musical in 1977, then it was adapted into a film in 1982, and was even made into a TV movie in 1999. The film co-stars Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis as Annie and Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx as Will Stacks, the revamped version of Daddy Warbucks. Just like its predecessors, this film tells the story of an orphan who is hopeful about being reunited with her parents, lives in an orphanage with a grumpy guardian, and encounters a hard-nosed billionaire. Typically, we scoff at remakes of classics and rebuff the newer version. With a star-studded cast and toe-tapping soundtrack and signature songs such as “It’s A Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow,” this modern day tale of orphan Annie is better than before and has me singing a new tune. Here’s my top five reasons.

Quvenzhané Wallis is fierce as Annie, even without the red locks.
