Guy Talk: Prom Trends

It’s that time of the year…. prom season. Girls, you want your date to love your dress just as much as you do, right? You want to look elegant but still feel stylish. College Lifestyles™ talked to three guys about their opinion on current prom trends as well as what they do like. Tim Curtis, a senior at Michigan State University, Tyler Alcantara and Weston Lawrence, both juniors from Grand Valley State University, give us their take on what guys like when it comes to prom styles.

College Lifestyles™: What dresses do you like girls wearing to prom?

Tim Curtis: I prefer dresses that are tight-fitting but not skin tight and ones that flared out after the waist similar to Cinderella.

Tyler Alcantara: I was always a fan of the long skinny dresses. They always make the girls look really good and are very classy.

Weston Lawrence: The dresses that I liked the most on girls are mermaid style or ball gown.

CL: Were there any dresses you didn’t like?

TC: I didn’t like dresses that ended above the knee; they seemed classless and not elegant enough for prom.

TA: I was never a fan of the poufy or frilly dresses, especially when they are short. Prom to me was always formal so shorter dresses didn’t fit that mold in my mind.

WL: The dresses I like the least are the short dresses because I feel they aren’t dressy enough for prom.

CL: Do you like when girls wear their hair up or down?

TC: I prefer hair that is up but has strands that hang down.

TA: I like when a girls hair is done well, and I don’t really have a preference as to which way it is, but I guess I would go with down, usually curly.

WL: I like when girls wear their up so it doesn’t get in the way of dancing.

CL: Out of these styles, which one do you like best?

TC: I preferred vintage over the other dress choices.

TA: Out of these styles, the vintage definitely caught my eye.

WL: I like the ‘babes in blue’ the best. I just found them the most appealing.

CL: On a guys style, do you like when guys wear the classic black suit or a white one?

TC: I wore both of the guys choices and I preferred the black one because it was easier to not worry about spilling anything on it.

TA: It depends on what the girl is wearing and what color he had to compliment. I would say I’m definitely a fan of the traditional black tux.

WL: Classic black suit all the way.

Even though you want your date to like your dress, it’s important that you wear what you feel most comfortable in. If you are confident, then he will love your look no matter what.
