The 5 Types of Sorority Bridesmaids

Based on my own eclectic group of friends from my sorority, I envisioned the role each friend would play when it’s time for me to take those steps down the aisle.

1) The efficient bridesmaid

She always held a position on e-board during your college years so she’s well aware of how to multi-task and stay organized. With a binder of lists and sticky notes explaining when and where you need to be for each appointment, she’ll be the one to let you know it’s five minutes past when you should be walking down the aisle.

2) The party animal bridesmaid

She always brought the party with her in college and, as your bridesmaid, her main duty on your wedding day will be to ensure you’re having the most fun possible and not pulling your hair out the least amount possible. When your first dance with your husband is over, she’ll be the one to lead the Conga line around the dance floor.

3) The comedian bridesmaid

She’s the one to joke about how the price for formal was the equivalent to the loan she’ll be taking out on her future house. She’ll make you laugh at how ridiculous you sound when you’re stressed about whether to choose the double chocolate fudge cake or the extra chocolate fudge cake for your wedding. She’ll also be a hoot when it’s time to give speeches to the bride and groom.

4) The mom bridesmaid

There always has to be at least one mom in the group. During college, she sent you many a text making sure you were either home safe or not somewhere in a dark alley alone. Whether it’s strongly guiding you away from wearing that large head piece on your wedding day or making the menu vegan, essentially appealing to 5% of your guests, she will have your best interests at heart.

5) The “yes” bridesmaid

During college she would “yes” you on what she thought to be trivial questions like, “Yes, yes, you look slimming in those jeans.” It’s not that she didn’t care about your pressing collegiate issues, she just knew what was important in life and what wasn’t. So, she will “yes” you until the cows home if you feel the need to ask her if the centerpiece flowers are the right shade of orange.
