DIY Textured Supply Organization Jars: Upcycled Rope Jar Desk Organizer Set

What did you do on the weekend nights during your twenty first year? Drink? Party? Me, I would visit World Market with my then-boyfriend, fill-up on their tea and coffee samples in the rear (scandal), play with the toys, exit inspired and head to our next destination...wait for it...Books-a-Million to read the comic, art, and science books for hours. We were rebels- we had a system. Bitches. These jars remind me of the impulse-buys I lusted over, but never bought, from World Market. But free! Here's how to make 'em:

All you need is 1) Hemp Twine

(I like it for the earthy, "classy", textured finish), yarn (colorful and kitsch) or even shredded fabric twisted into "rope". I liked mine plain for now but there's colorful hemp twine

, too. 2) E6000 Craft Adhesive

(at every craft store and WalMart, very inexpensive and long-lasting, and a crafter must-have) 3) Upcycled jars. I saved mine from pasta sauce and pickled veggies.

Take off your labels if desired, not required since you'll be covering the whole jar with your rope of choice. Apply your glue to the rim of your jar to keep it secure as an anchor, from there you won't need more glue, just keep twisting it around your jar...

Be patient and try not to let the rope overlap (or the glass show) to keep it classy glassy. You can shoot me for that one. You could even do layers of colorful hemp twine

for stripes or rainbow affects. Texturally it also may be interesting to leave the smooth bottom of the glass jar unwrapped to juxtapose the rough twine.

When you reach the bottom it can be a little tricky to keep wrapping it around, especially if there's a curve like this glass has. Finish it up by applying more glue at the bottom, twisting to the end, then cutting the rope.

I'm about to make a huge wall-of-shelves for my dream office. I've always wanted a huge open-shelving solution with all of my art supplies beautifully displayed and ready-to-use and I'm almost there!

I shall be making many more of these jars for storing my varieties of markets, paint brushed, colored pencils, and other crafting goodness! They'll be so sexy on those shelves, they look a tad mid century to my eyes somehow and are nice and simple to juxtapose my colorful art and toy collections. 21-year-old me would be proud. (These would be great in the bathroom hosting make-up brushes and supplies, too. Or in the kitchen holding utensils and tools. I'll be making lots of these.)
