DIY Rose Petal Ice Facial

Ice’s known de swelling benefits are scientific. When you apply ice, it constricts blood flow, therefor decreasing heal time from a sprain, fall, or injury. After raising five boys, my mother-in-law swears by ice for injuries, and my facialist says it’s the best at home (and least expensive) facial tool we can use between appointments. Beyond deswelling ice has many uses for the face too. From increasing circulation and blood flow (hello sallow morning face), to depuffing eyes (who doesn’t burn the candle at both ends and see it under our eyes the most?) it also is said to unclog and shrink pores! I’ve started to perform weekly ice facials and let me tell ya, I see a difference in my skin. It feels more supple and radiant. It takes a bit to get used to the cold, but overall it feels really good and wakes me (and my skin) up.

It’s unlike to me save and dry my rose petals, but my husband bought me gorgeous butter yellow flowers for our 6 month wedding anniversary, so I didn’t want to throw them away. I took off the buds and threw them in the freezer. When I moved apartments last week, I had an aha moment. Why not add them to my ice? If anything the cubes will look really pretty. However, rose has as many skincare benefits as well. Women have been using rose for centuries to heal dry skin. Roses have natural antibacterial properties, so good for acne, and to top it off, rose scent is a natural mood enhancer aka aphrodisiac. This double whammy is your ultimate skincare and wellness DIY.

So how do you ice facial? Simply take the cubes, and rub gently, directly onto the skin, or if super sensitive to cold, place in a thin muslin/bamboo/cotton washcloth – and rub all over face. Instantly you will feel awake, after five minutes you will feel a tightening effect. Place emphasis on areas of focus, like eyes, a blemish, or neck.
