beautyblender blendercleanser Solid Review & Pictures

You may remember me writing in a previous review that I wasn’t able to get all the makeup out of the beautyblender makeup sponge when using the liquid beautyblender blendercleanser.

After I used up my little bottle of the liquid cleanser, it was good timing because I saw that Sephora started selling the beautyblender blendercleanser Solid.

So I gave it a go, and here were my results after about a month of using it daily!

beautyblender blendercleanser Solid Review

How to Use

After unscrewing the lid, I take my beautyblender sponge and run it under water to expand it. Then, I take the dirty parts and rub the makeup sponge directly onto the solid cleanser.

I squeeze the sponge several times, and you can see the foundation coming out. Afterwards, I run the sponge again in water to rinse it off. Sometimes I repeat those steps to get as much of the foundation out as I can.

When I use this with brushes, I simply dampen the bristles and swirl them onto the solid beautyblender blendercleanser. Then, I rinse the bristles with water, reshape, and lay flat to dry.

After I use the solid beautyblender blendercleanser, I make sure that there’s no water trapped in the dish. If there is, I tip it to pour it out because screwing the lid back on.

Efficacy

The beautyblender blendercleanser worked better on my makeup brushes to leave them very clean. However, no matter how many times I tried to clean the same beautyblender makeup sponge with this solid cleanser, I couldn’t get all the foundation spots out! (I had the same issue with the liquid version.)

I have tried cleaning my beautyblender at different times, too. For instance, sometimes I would clean it directly after using it, and other times, I tried cleaning it the next day. I was met with the same results for both.

While I’m not paranoid, I do like to clean the makeup sponge after every single use. So it bothers me a little that I can’t get all the foundation out.

It may be the type of foundation that lingers in the sponge that’s so stubborn. For instance, when I used this sponge with the Garnier BB cream, I was able to get every little bit out. However, when I used the Kat von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation and the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation, I was unable to get my beautyblender sponge pristine. It’s possible that it’s because those foundations are long-wearing.

Fragrance

The solid makeup brush cleanser smells like Froot Loops cereal to me because it has that artificial fruity scent. It was actually a nice surprise because I didn’t know it was going to have that smell. So when I began cleaning my brushes, all of a sudden, I thought, “Why am I craving Froot Loops now?” It makes for a pleasant cleaning experience. But I guess if you’re sensitive to fragrances, you may not like it. (It is, however, a light fragrance, not like something that’ll hit you in the face like a brick.)

Travel-Friendly

Although I don’t travel a lot, when I do, I always appreciate things I can take with me that won’t leak. The solid beautyblender blendercleanser is exactly the kind of product that I prefer to travel with because it’s compact and therefore easy to pack.

So, although it costs $20 CAD for this small pack, I think the convenience is worth it. Plus I’ve noticed that a little goes a long way, so although at first you think you’ll burn through the cleanser in no time, you actually will get a lot of use out of it because it’s all gone.

Pros

  • Smells like Froot Loops cereal (May be a Con for some)
  • Cleans the beautyblender (depending on what foundation you use, though, not all of it will come out)
  • Cleans makeup brushes very well
  • Travel-friendly, compact packaging
  • Easy-to-use
  • A little goes a long way

Cons

  • Smells like Froot Loops cereal (May be a Pro for some)
  • Doesn’t clean the beautyblender sponge perfectly (depending on what foundation you’ve used)

Final Verdict: 8/10

Even though I didn’t get stellar results from using this solid cleanser when I used long-wearing foundations, I would still purchase this again because I found that it made cleaning my makeup brushes a breeze and I enjoyed the fun fragrance.

I will still use this to clean my beautyblender makeup sponge until I find something that works better. (If you have any suggestions for what you’ve tried that thoroughly cleans your beautyblender sponge, please let me know in the comments below.)
