Lancome Lip Lover Swatches, Photos & Review

You might have noticed the Lancome Lip Lover popping up in stores for Spring 2014. These are the one of the latest in lip gloss hybrid products that carry more claims that a typical lip gloss.

Lip Lover’s hybrid formula combines colour, shine and care all in one. Equipped with an intelligent bi-phasic formula, Lancome Lip Lover separates on application so the pigmented phase can fuse with lips while the glossy film rises to the surface to evenly coat lips.

There are a total of 21 shades divided into two colour families; Basic Chic (neutrals like pink-beige to rosewood) and Creative Chic (coral, raspberry and deep purples).

I received three shades to do a quick review and swatch video on. The three shades I have are 332 Beige Adage, 337 Lip Lover, and 361 Violette Pirouette.

Lancome Lip Lover swatches and review

The packaging is simple and lightweight. The tube has a transparent square where the product colour is visible. The cap opens with a small square button and snaps shut when you push the applicator back in.

The dough foot applicator is shaped as a flattened arrow. It has a pointed tip for precise application in areas like the cupid’s bow and along the edges of the lips.

332 Beige Adage

Lip Lover in Beige Adage is the most pigmented of the three swatched in this post. It has an opaque, cream-like quality, while maintaining a glossy finish. It’s a solid neutral pink-beige for everyday, though I find it leans more on the pink side than its name suggests. The colour lingers on the lips long after application, but loses shine with wear.

337 Lip Lover

This Lancome Lip Lover in Lip Lover; it’s named after the entire range. It has a sheerer finish that can be built up with a second coat (as I have done for the swatch above). This is a no-fuss gloss that adds instant lively colour to the lips.

361 Violette Pirouette

Lip Lover in Violette Pirouette is the least true to colour of the bunch. When I saw the gloss, I sort of anticipated that it would turn out to be a perfect violet shade. It gives the lips a wash of purple and will wear nicely on those with more brown or plum pigmentation in their lips. I was impressed with how even the application turned out; normally that’s a struggle I have with dark glosses.

I noticed that the three shades had micro shimmer that is not detectable in feel or appearance on the lips. These have a light vanilla and juicy raspberry fragrance.

Overall thoughts

There are a lot of pros to these glosses. The Lancome Lip Lover lives up to its moisture claims and doesn’t dry out the lips. They are long lasting (8 hours on me), but the shine and colour fade evenly over the wear time. Despite the fade in shine, the formula leaves the lips feeling soft and moisturised. I also liked the evenness of the application.

There’s a colour for everyone. The range has a variety of finishes from sheer to opaque. For that reason, I recommend swatching a few in store before you settle on a specific shade.
