Dylan is growing so fast now and it's hard to believe he's turning 2 in just a couple weeks here! We had a little family photoshoot a few weeks ago with Meena of Meena Jeanes Photography and I couldn't be happier with how the pictures turned out. I did put a bit of thought into how we would coordinate our outfits for the occasion and wanted to share a few tips that I think really worked for us!
  • Coordinate but don't match. Having everyone wear the same color tops and bottoms just makes for a picture that looks too uniform and everyone starts blending together. I actually chose to have Dylan wear the most classic outfit in just a white button down and jeans but added fun pops of blue and pink accessories. Adrian then wore a blue outfit while I then wore a pink outfit so that in the end it all came together nicely!

  • Dress for the location. Since I knew we'd be shooting in an area that was mostly green, I wanted to make sure we avoided green in our outfits so that we would stand out. I actually love the contrast

  • Avoid reds and oranges. My Chinese family is a big proponent of wearing bold reds in all our of pictures as it's a lucky color in Asian cultures. Unfortunately the color comes off as oversaturated in pictures and can actually distract people to looking at clothing instead of people's faces. Meena has even mentioned that as part of her editing, she will even go in and manually de-saturate pictures where there is just too much red or orange so that the colors are more balanced. This kind of post-processing often costs extra so the best tip is just to avoid reds and oranges altogether!

For anyone in the DFW area looking for an amazing photographer, you'll definitely want to check out Meena Jeanes Photography. I absolutely love her photo-journalistic style and the beautiful way she is able to capture people in their best candid moments. She has a little 2-year old girl of her own so she knows exactly how to relate to little ones and have them light up in front of the camera. Thank you Meena for such a fun photoshoot!
