Review :: Eyelash Extensions

holiday makeup look details
A few weeks ago I received a full set of lash extensions from Lash Maxx, a local eyelash boutique here in Dallas. I have naturally short and straight lashes that are super fine and don't like to hold a curl. When I wasn't pregnant, I was using a lash growth serum religiously to make my lashes grow and look fuller. But since these serums aren't pregnancy safe, my lashes have been looking virtually nonexistent these days. I had been considering lash extensions for some time so I was ecstatic when LashMaxx offered a full set application!
Appointment: My appointment at LashMaxx with Claria was amazing. The appointment started off with a quick assessment of my natural lashes and since my lashes are so fine, Claria suggested that we use a mix of the regular extensions (1 eyelash is adhered to the natural lash) as well as volume lash extensions (3 lashes are adhered to each natural lash) for a fuller look. The whole process took about an hour and it was so relaxing -- I actually fell asleep at one point during the procedure as it was just too blissful! It was beauty sleep at its finest as I woke up with lashes that actually had me doing a double-take because they were so lush and glamorous. False lashes have always felt awkward and heavy on my eyelid, but these extensions felt completely natural. I've been able to go mascara free and I can say that even without a stitch of eye makeup on, these lashes actually make me look like I'm wide-eyed. Lately I've just been swiping on a bit of undereye concealer and heading out the door -- it's the most liberating feeling!

Maintenance & Care:
Taking care of eyelash extensions turned out to be super simple! I personally did not apply additional mascara on top of the extensions as they were already very bold and I didn't find that I needed it. However, if you do choose to apply mascara, be sure to choose one that's water based and non-waterproof! For me, I just had to switch my eye makeup remover to an oil-free wipe (I used these). Anything with oil will dissolve the bonding agent and cause the extensions to fall out sooner. Otherwise, I didn't change anything else in my daily habits of showering, working out

Touch-Ups:
Now that it has been about 2.5 weeks after my application, I'm at a point where I'm seeing patchiness in my extensions. Touch-up appointments are generally recommended every 2-3 weeks and take less than 45 minutes.

I absolutely love the look of eyelash extensions and it definitely makes getting ready in the mornings super fast. As far as convenience goes, you can't beat it! Unfortunately given how frequently touch-ups are needed to maintain the look of a full set of extensions, it's not something I can have every day. But, I would definitely say that if there was a special occasion (e.g. wedding, holiday party, or New Year's Eve bash), it would be something wonderful to splurge on! It would also make a great gift for the holidays! After all, who doesn't want to wake up looking naturally glamorous? :)

I hope this review was helpful for anyone curious about or considering eyelash extensions. I would highly recommend LashMaxx for anyone here in Dallas looking to have a set applied -- they even have new client specials!

If you've had experience with eyelash extensions yourself, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Disclosure: I was provided a free full-set of eyelash extensions for this review, but all opinions are 100% my own. Thank you so much for supporting the sponsors that support this blog!
