You’ll want to spend some time playing around with various shades: I recommend thinking about your favorite everyday lipstick and then turning it up a notch or two in the berry shades. For example, I tend to go more brown with my everyday color so I would choose a berry shade that leans toward deep raisin. If you’re a pink girl then try a raspberry tone like the one pictured here. I don’t believe in strict beauty rules because ultimately you have to love it regardless of skin tones or hair color. But chances are your everyday color already suits you and will give you a great jumping off place to try this trend!
What to wear: I think sticking to neutral shades really allows the lips a chance to play center stage. I absolutely LOVE the idea of an all winter white ensemble with a merlot shade on the lips.
Matte vs Glossy: When deciding whether to go matte or glossy consider the occasion. I think the glosses or lip stains lend themselves to a more casual effect while a matte lip just begs for a night on the town!
