Normally a night in my one bedroom fifth floor walk up with a bubble bath is plenty of glamour for me, which is why I don’t always make it out at Fashion Week. But then there are some invitations that I really can’t resist. Like those with champagne and diamonds. I’ve been to plenty of events with champagne (I spent two years working for Perrier-Jouët in fact) but diamonds were really next level. Then a sumptuous boutique draped in pink and dazzling with jewelry really seemed like a place I wouldn’t mind spending an evening. All that to say I managed to get out of the bubble bath and make it down to rue Saint-Honoré for the occasion of discovering Messika’s first flagship boutique at its very prestigious address, I might add. Diamonds are actually something I’ve never had a spectacular affinity for. Firstly, I was taught that diamonds could age a young lady. Pearls would be more appropriate, and in time with age a woman could wear diamonds (am I there yet because I’m ready for my diamonds?). Secondly, I never found them to be particularly practical for regular wear. Lastly, they intimated me. Valérie Messika (founder and designer) and her team changed my mind about all of that.
