Nathan and I spent today working on a new blog design to take our minds off what a strange and horrid week it’s been. We got so enwrapped in it that I forgot about everything but just designing something that made us so deliriously happy. I then said we should just leave to go and take photographs together like the “old” days because we’ve been together for nearly 7 years and I miss being able to run outside with the camera like we used to. So we put our socks and boots on and sprinted out the front door. I didn’t know what we were about to shoot but the thrill of just dropping everything and going to take some photographs felt incredible.

We went to the exact same spot where we took this photo back in 2010:

We stood with straight backs feeling awkward in front of the lens. I kept saying stupid things to try and make us laugh like, “Imagine being an octopus right now” but it only made me feel even more weird and uncomfortable in my body. I then remembered this was the same place where we took that photo and I said, “You remember that cheesy twirly photo? Let’s do that right now!” So we started to ignore the camera snapping away and we just moved and laughed and Nathan said, “I’m an octopus” and it all felt so great. It actually felt nice to be freezing but being silly with the wind making our eyes water. Dog-walkers walked by all wrapped up in their thermals and we’d dumped our coats by our muddy feet and just spent 5 minutes feeling like we were 16 all over again. I think this one of my new favourite personal photographs we’ve taken because it’s not sugar-coated or posed, it’s real and who we are, just plain silly dorks. It reminded me that 2014 should be more about these moments; being spontaneous.
