How-To: Chanel-Inspired Outline Manicure

Elegance gets playful with this trendy Chanel-inspired outline manicure using two gorgeous shades from the Summer 2014 collection. Inspired by the stunning visuals of the Chanel Reflects d’Été Collection for Summer 2014, this quick and easy “Outline Manicure” look is fun and playful- yet still totally elegant. It utilizes two Chanel Le Vernis nail lacquers from the collection; Eastern Light and Sweet Lilac, but feel free to switch up the colors as you wish.It may take a few tries to perfect the technique, but this 3-step tutorial will show you a few tricks to get it right each time.

Step 1

Apply two coats of Chanel Vernis in Eastern Light for an opaque, white base. Let this base dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 2

This is the hardest step, so take your time! Make sure to load up your brush well and move slowly (this allows for the polish to spread a bit on the nail and create a smoother edge). Begin at the cuticle (leaving about 2mm of white base showing) and apply Chanel Vernis in Sweet Lilac in a half “U-shape” on each side, following the same shape of the nail and white base underneath.

Step 3

Let the colored border dry for a few seconds (this prevents the color from spilling over the perfect edge you just created). Fill in the U-shape with the same color (you may need 2 coats for an opaque finish). Use a clean, synthetic brush with non-acetone nail polish remove to clean up the cuticle edge for a clean finish. Top it off with a clear polish to seal it all in after it dries.
