Red Musk: The Body Shop’s Most Unconventional Scent To Date

For anyone who has grown up with The Body Shop, you’ve probably become very accustomed to their typical scents- Satsuma, Cocoa Butter, Mango and a bunch of others. Fruity, floral and very “The Body Shop”, these scented bath & body products have been adored for years.

This Fall, The Body Shop is switching that up and introducing a brand new fragrance that is unlike no other they’ve ever had before. Launching in October 2014, Red Musk ($45 for 100mL) is a scandalous new scent made with a smouldering blend of spiced musk with notes of pepper, cinnamon and tobacco. What sets it apart from anything else they’ve done before, is the lack of any floral notes in the fragrance.

The Body Shop pioneered the first synthetic, cruelty-free musk years ago with their iconic White Musk fragrance, and this year they are turning up the heat with this sexy new scent. It’s very unique, and although marketed as a sultry, feminine fragrance, I really feel like it’s more of a unisex scent (tobacco— one of the main notes— is typically found in male fragrances). It wears differently on every skin and although there is still a sweet component, it’s definitely not “girly” by any means. It’s warm, spicy and smoky— perfect for this upcoming chilly weather or just for anyone who isn’t a fan of overly-feminine fragrances.

The Body Shop took a risk on this one, but I think it definitely paid off. Be sure to give it a try in stores this October!
