What’s Hot: Overnight Masks

The latest trend in skincare that can be just as confusing as the whole BB, CC, DD thing? Overnight Masks. They are super trendy right now… but even this writer was confused for a while. For years, we’ve been taught that a mask is a skincare treatment that you apply perhaps once to twice a week, let it sit on the skin for 15-20 minutes to work its magic, then you rinse it off.

Well, not so much anymore.

Even some masks that don’t say “Overnight” on the label are designed to stay on the skin— so read the directions closely. Unless it comes in a sheet-mask form or looks like clay, you just never know these days anymore.

Think of overnight masks as super-charged moisturizers instead of a traditional 20-minute mask. They usually contain high concentrations of active ingredients to help deliver a little extra care and hydration, while creating an invisible barrier on the skin to help seal it all in overnight (don’t worry though, they do sink into the skin and don’t leave residue marks on your pillow).

So even though it might be confusing— and I’m still not 100% convinced I would consider these treatments to be a “mask”— what I am sure of is that I love ‘em. Especially come winter and holiday party season, these overnight masks are sure to help replenish and revitalize for some much-needed beauty sleep.

I’ve rounded up 15 fabulous formulas to check out when deciding which one to try. Whether you’re looking for deep-down hydration, anti-aging benefits or even to reduce dark spots or hide a hangover— there’s an overnight mask here for you.
