I’m Not Finished Raving About This Mascara Yet

I feel like I haven’t fully expressed my love for the new shu uemura petal lash mascara ($29). It has been around for a few months now, and I feel like it hasn’t gotten nearly as much love in the media as it should, so I’m taking this moment to rave a little more for it.

I guess I have a thing for shu uemura mascaras, which seem to be quite underrated. I loved the shu uemura stretch xtreme waterproof mascara ($33) for a long time, even though I rarely ever heard anyone talk about it. I feel the same with this mascara—perhaps because it’s still fairly new, but I think in general shu uemura needs a little more love in the mascara department.

The petal lash mascara is a very precise mascara that magically grabs your lashes and gets right to the base of ‘em. Seriously, I’ve never used a mascara that really latches onto lashes like this one does. Plus—the curved brush makes applying mascara to the lower lashes a total breeze because it contours to the rounded shape of the eye (goodbye smudges)! I’ve always been pretty skeptical as to how much a mascara brush really makes a difference, but in this case, it sure does.

The formula is just as amazing as the applicator too—while it doesn’t say “waterproof” on the label, it definitely is. It’s actually one of the hardest mascaras to remove (probably the only thing I dislike about this mascara) but it’s not impossible with a good oil-based eye makeup remover (I recommend Lancôme Bi-Facil, $36). The lightweight formula holds lashes up for a fanned out look that is soft, feathery and lush. It gives just the right amount of volume and length to open and define the eyes.

While this mascara is technically “designed for Asian eyes”, I promise you—everyone will love it.
