How to wear Denim this season

Denim just got a whole heap more dynamic this season with cut’s in the way of culottes and high-waists, distressed denim and girlfriend jeans.

Here’s a little look into the 2014′s fresh approach to jeans…

|| STRAIGHT LEGS ||

Straight leg jeans are a classic cut that you’ll always be able to find available in boutiques. This season however, look for this style paired alongside distressed denim – which is denim that has been nicked, ripped and rubbed to create a ‘worn’ look, despite them being brand new! And don’t worry, brands have mastered this treatment so that the rips are contained and won’t continue ripping!

Try pairing this style with a softer top to juxtapose the boyish and feminine appeal for the ultimate in a fashionably relaxed look.

|| CULOTTES ||

Vibeing the 1970′s, this wide legged style is the ultimate in baggy! The only place they should hit you is on your hips, and from there on down they should flare out in an A-line style. Not to be mistaken for the traditional ‘flared jean’, which remains tight until the knee then juts out dramatically, culottes are a little more relaxed in their style. But be warned, if you don’t wear high heels with them, they will do you no favours! They have the unfortunate knack of making their wearer look short – so heel-up for extra hight!

|| BOYFRIEND JEANS ||

Worn low and baggy, but note – not too baggy, this style looks best when in a lighter denim and slightly distressed. They are the perfect jean for beach-bound weekends and can be worn rolled up or straight down at the hem line depending on the occasion.

|| GIRLFRIEND JEANS ||

Essentially a straight-legged jean, this style has a few more elements that make them a little more complicated than their partner, the ‘boyfriend jean’ but all the more stunning when worn! With a high waist and a cropped leg, they look a little strange off the hanger, but when on the body, are wonderfully flattering to our feminine curves. They still edge on looking incredibly comfortable and casual, but in a way that works in our favour.

|| FLARES ||

Another borrowed item from the 1970′s, the flared jean of 2014 do a few things slightly differently, although still hod that sultry appeal that they always have! In most flares you’ll find a decent amount of stretch to the denim, meaning you won’t have to lie on your bed and pull vigorously to get them on, or jump around the room until your fitting snug inside. The modern version shapes to your body with a lot more ease.

Now just like the culottes however, this style is best worn with high heels to really make the most of this curve enhancing style.

Now with all these styles, try:

- Denim on Denim! Patnering your denim jeans with a denim shirt is still the way to go!

- Heels, heels, heels – a forever favourite with jeans

- Simple Tee’s and statement accessorising work wonderfully in for that casual but chic look!
