Costumes From Your Closet // Soda Jerk

Hey Halloweenies! We’re back this week with another installment of Costumes from your Closet! I’m just loving the idea of being able to put together a costume without going out and having to purchase parts or special pieces that you’ll never use again. We’re featuring Mr. Lovely again this week (partially because he’s so cute and partially because my baby tummy doesn’t fit in most of my clothes!), but rest assured that you can use this costume for men and women just the same. It’s soda jerk time!

Taking it back to the old school days when folks headed to the ice cream shop after school for a malted or a scoop. The clothing part of this costume is super simple! Just a white button-up shirt and a bow tie on top, and maybe some khaki pants on the bottom (bonus points for white pants!). We did a little DIY action for the hat and the unmeltable ice cream cone. Keep reading for the how-to!

On the hat, grab a piece of white cardstock and cut it in half lengthwise. Use clear tape to tape the ends together so that it opens up into a hat shape. Add some decorative tape (I used a red stripe of wide washi tape) if you like!

For the cone, twist a piece of kraft cardstock into a cone shape, cut off the excess, and tape together. Blow up a white balloon just a bit, tie it off, and affix it to the cone with tape or glue. Use markers to draw on some “sprinkles.” And roll up some red tissue paper to tape on the top and be a cherry. Ta-da!

Carry around your unmeltable ice cream cone and offer people scoops all day. I’m pretty sure they’ll wish it was real. Thanks gang! Come back next week for another easy and free Halloween costume! xoxo
