Little Guy’s Nursery

Wanna know something crazy? In the mornings, sometimes I wake up and the first thing I do is go sit in this room and just look around. Isn’t that bonkers? In probably just a few days I’ll be chained to the rocking chair for hours on end and all I want to do right now is go sit in there and stare. I’m just so happy that the little dude’s nursery is all finished, and that I actually like it. For a long time I was super stressed about it, as though if something wasn’t quite right he’d just have a tantrum and hate it. Which I know is crazy. But it’s done and it’s so happy in there and I just love it.

When we started dreaming about the nursery, we decided on sort of an eclectic adventure vibe, with bright and happy accents. And I knew way down deep in my bones that the VW van photo that Mary took had to be the inspiration. So that’s where we started. I was also so over the moon to have Land of Nod partner up with us to provide a few key pieces that make the room come together.

We started with a super simple crib, and painted the wall behind it a pale, minty blue (if there is such a thing?). I had a heck of a time deciding what to put over the crib because of my complete terror at having something fall down into it. So we eventually decided on a little DIY pompom garland and a sweet cloud light that we found thrifting. Mr. Lovely literally spent hours wiring and hanging that thing because I kept changing my mind about where it would go and how it would hang and where the switch would be. He liked me lots after that. The pineapple print and car print from went up next to the crib to jazz it up a little — perfect for a little dude. We also got the crib all dressed up in a crib sheet and skirt from Nod. Who could pass up a chambray crib skirt?!

Oh, and somebody please give me a round of applause — I knitted that throw pillow cover. I win.

You probably remember the gallery wall we put together, which is still one of my favorite spots in the room. A while back, Meg from White Nest sent us the Greatest Adventure print and I just about cry every time I see it. And the ampersand embroidery was a sweet gift from Laura. Almost everything in the room has a story behind it and I just love that.

After a million mamas raved about it, we finally splurged on the Graham Glider from west elm for a rocking chair, and woahhhh I’m glad we did. It’s the most comfortable chair in our house. We added the leather pouf from Nod for a little ottman and it works like a charm. And DUDES the dresser we ended up choosing for the little guy is an IKEA hack! Anybody want a tutorial? I can definitely share our secrets. And Nod’s Eden table lamp is just so perfect on the top of it.

We did a little DIY treatment on the closet doors using removable stripes, which I am mildly obsessed with. At first I thought it was too loud but I got over that real quick. And the beauty is that if we ever want to switch it up those stripes come right off.

A couple of Nod’s soft knit baskets are holding all of the little buddy’s blankies and toys for now. I love those bright pops of yellow. And we did another little IKEA hack to make some shelves for books and a few special things.

Thanks for coming on our little nursery tour! It is beyond weird to me that this room is going to be home to a little boy real, real soon. Big thanks to Land of Nod for helping us make a cozy spot for him. Okay little one, we’re ready for you! xoxo
