the oversized camel coat hype

There is something funny going on in the world of fashion. And this funny little mechanism slowly crept into my fashion world, my personal style and into my wardrobe. Like a silent killer I didn't even know that I was going through some kind of fashion transformation. In other words I wasn't immune to all kinds of stimuli, although I thought I was. My inner researcher has forced me to analyze this phenomenon. So let's start at the beginning, who am I in fashion terms (yes dear people are you ready for some heavy Freud stuff)? Simple, eclectic. My motto: the bolder, the better. I am a sucker when it comes to bold, quirky, outgoing and over the top stuff. And without a second thought I love to mix all kinds of styles and patterns. As a true style blogger I claim not to follow trends. Dr. Freud would say: dear Mrs. K, liar liar pants on fire. And he is right, dear world I must confess and I must face the truth, I am not bulletproof when it comes to hypes.
Here is the thing: does following hypes mean that you are denying your fashion identity? Especially when current hypes are miles apart from your style. All I can say is that my inner fashion demons are battling. Why? because I am not a minimalistic sneaker wearing all black scandinavian girl. This style is the complete opposite of my fashion identity, but it looks so damn good. Oh dear world, it's a struggle beyond imagination! On top of it all I am fed up with high fashion and its bold and over the top outcomes. I guess I have lost my 'coup de foudre' genes and rational reasoning took over. A few years ago I would have murdered somebody to get my hands on a new Prada it-bag. But today my head takes over: do you really need it (most of the time it is a no no), do you really want it? And even more importantly: will it stand the test of time or is this piece 'dated'? Take the Isabel Marant sneakers for instance. There was a time when half of the female population on this globe wanted them. But what about 'a few years later'? When the hype is over how do you feel about the sneakers? And is it not done to still wear them? This should actually not be an issue, if you love them wear them! The funny thing is that there is a very strong correlation between fashion and my sentiment when it comes to hypes. And that is exactly how fashion works.
All in all this has led to a different kind of buying behavior. More and more I am convinced about 'the power of basics' like these Tod's loafers. And yes I do style them with skinny black jeans. But hold on, my eclectic self came out one way or another. Combine them with glitter socks and you add a whole other dimension to your outfit. Last but not least, let's talk about the oversized camel coat hype (it came right after the oversized powder pink coat hype). Although I truly believe that every woman should own a camel coat, the fashion gurus bombarded it to the it-piece of the season. Okay, so let's kill two birds with one stone and go to your local flea market. I have scored this impeccable and high quality camel coat for only €12! Hooray, hooray, I am hip and trending, but I didn't have to sell my organs for this hype.
