Day-To-Night Holiday Glam with Monroe and Main

This is a Fashionista Event Opportunity with Monroe and Main and is hosted by Still Blonde after all these YEARS and yours truly. #MMHolidayFashion #DaytoNight

One of the things I’ve realized lately is that I need to be really good at going directly from school to an after-work event. But of course, especially around the holidays, I don’t want to be wearing the exact same thing when I am running around the classroom trying to entertain the students and when I am out at a Christmas party or meeting friends for a little gift exchange. That’s when the Day-to-Night transition becomes so important.

I like to start with a great basic dress, like this jacquard dress from Monroe and Main. The blue and black design is simple enough for day time and can be glammed up significantly for an evening party. I wore it with over-the-knee boots and a very basic black cardigan for the work day. It made the dress easy to move in, but more importantly it made the transition seamless. All I needed to do was lose the sweater, add a glimmering scarf; lose the boots, add a great pair of heels; lose the basic jewelry, add a serious statement necklace and pair of uneven earrings; a little makeup touch-up and a swipe of red lipstick, took me from school teacher to evening diva.

I got to wear the glammed-up version of this dress to the first holiday party of the season. Finding an accent to make the dress party ready was the hardest part of pulling the look together. I tried a number of different shrugs but hated the way it cut the dress off in odd places, especially since there is a built in waistline already. I then tried a number of different shawls and scarves. Initially, I planned to go with a deep plum wrap that perfectly complimented the blue of the dress, but it was too blah for a party. I went instead with the pattern-play of the silver and gold scarf and ended up loving the combination together. (Shh… don’t tell, my mother wore a very similar scarf. When we both arrived there was a moment in which I was convinced she stole my look. HA.)

How do you go from day to night?

Special shoutout to my camera crew… Now that my students know all about the blog, I’ve recruited (without really recruiting anyone) a photographer, a photographer’s assistance (who holds my coat LOL) and now a stylist who tells me how to pose and lean. HA! They are a great team, although half the photos end up looking like this…
