Cocktails at WaR: The Gibson

The Gibson: a dry Martini alternative. There are numerous stories about the origin of “the Gibson”, some more credible than others. My favourite of all these myths must be the one about Hugh Simons Gibson, an American diplomat/businessman who loved to drink with his clients. But being a secret teetotaller he asked the bartender to replace his dry Martini with water, garnished with a pickled silver skin onion instead of an olive. That way he could easily identify his own glass while others were getting drunk: an easy way to close some good deals during the wee hours.

Give it a try, don’t forget your pen and paper though!

The ingredients:

a dash of dry vermouth
6 cl of Bombay Sapphire gin
2 pickled silver skin onions

Pre chill a martini glass with crushed ice. Fill your mixing glass with ice cubes, a dash of dry vermouth and the gin. Stir for about 10 seconds. Strain into your pre chilled martini glass and garnish with the pickled silver skin onions. And for the adventurous, you guys could add some juniper berries from the pickle juice.

I worked my photography skills on this one, what do you guys think?

Cheers!
