The Midas Touch: Wood and Rags x Happy Nails

Burger and Nails, maybe not the most obvious blend but it sure fits. I’m a sucker for burgers and when it comes to nails… well let’s say I know too much about nails than commonly accepted in my “manly” world. Blame my sisters from the hood, the beauty-bloggin’ hood that is.

Elfi from Happy Nails is one of those girls that can get my attention with just a perfect manicure, a strange thing I know. For a lot of men it’s stockings or heels that rock their world, “chez moi” it’s the manicure, oh and the stockings and while I’m at it some nice heels too. So when she asked me to do a collab around burgers and nails, I just couldn’t say no.

We worked on a “Siamese” blogpost (here’s the link!), she grilled the nails and I polished some burgers. So start drooling, it’s gonna be finger licking good.

Ingredients for 2 servings:
2 sesame bagels
4 slices of bacon
1 avocado
2 eggs
edible gold dust

For the dressing:
4 TS of yoghurt (non skimmed)
a fresh point pepper
fresh ginger
coriander
a dash of lemon juice
salt & pepper

For the burger:
300 gr of minced lamb
1 clove of garlic
1 shallot
1 egg
extra fine breadcrumb
salt & pepper

The burger: chop up the garlic and the shallot in tiny pieces, put them in a bowl and add the rest of the ingredients. (Make sure you chop up the garlic and don’t press it, pressing garlic gives a bitter taste to the meat.) Mix everything thoroughly. If your mixture is too moist add some extra breadcrumb for consistency. Roll the paste into meatballs and flatten them to get a real burger, you want a thickness of 2 cm. These burgers are going to be big ones, make sure to make them bigger then the bagel, minced meat tends to shrink when grilled. Put the burgers in the fridge.

The dressing: Chop up the ginger, point pepper and coriander. I didn’t use any measure for these because you can add as much as you want. (I used a piece of ginger the size of a ping pong ball, half a point pepper and a handful of coriander.) Mix everything in a bowl, add a dash of lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.

The golden glitter bagel: This is super easy! If you own a kitchen brush, use one. It will save you time and a glittery mess. Dip your brush into the edible gold dust and paint your bagel golden! (If you don’t own a kitchen brush just use your fingers => GLITTER NAILS AND A PRETTY BUN.)

Let’s make the burger! I grilled the bacon in the oven, it’s healthier and a lot less greasy. Put the grill on medium heat and grill for the bacon for about 5 minutes on each side.

Slice the avocado in two, spoon it out and cut it into strips. (A half an avocado per burger)

Heat up your pan, grease it with some olive oil and grill the burgers for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. While grilling your burgers you can use another pan to bake your eggs, sunny side up please!

Top the base of the bagel with dressing, top with avocado, the burger, a sunny side up egg and two slices of bacon, close it up!

Bon appétit!
