Wrist Leashes

Have you ever seen those backpack leashes? My kids actually used to love wearing those. Since they’re getting a little old for them (and I don’t want to have to hold onto the other end) but I’m still worried about them wandering off I decided to sew some wrist leashes.

I started with three yards of ribbon. Cut off 32” and heat seal all 4 ends. Fold the end of the larger piece over 10 inches and sew both edges along the 10” length (this will be the wrist strap for my kid).

Fold the other end over 12 inches and sew both edges. This will be the adult end. Then thread elastic into the center pocket created on each end. Since my elastic was stiff it slid in easily.

Stitch through the elastic and ribbon at each end to hold it in place. Then you can pull it and ruffle the ends until they’re the size that works for your kids wrist and your wrist. Once you have it sized stitch over the ribbon and elastic to hold it in place and then cut off the excess.

Use the 32” of ribbon you cut off earlier to cover the back of the remaining ribbon in the middle so it’s two sided.

Wrap each end around to form a bracelet and stitch down. I double stitched and zig-zag stitched to make sure it wouldn’t break open.

Although it wasn’t super crowded when we went we did use these occasionally when my kids didn’t want to sit in their strollers and they worked out great!
