The Week That Was: Belmont Stakes 2013 Edition

Three different horses took each jewel of the Triple Crown this year, with Palace Malice leading the Derby and Preakness winners to the finish line at this year’s Belmont Stakes in New York. But fret not, for there will be more opportunities to wear big floppy hats and tiny fascinators this summer, from Saratoga Springs to the West Coast.

In the meantime, however, here is what you might have missed this week.

  • Found a part-time job at Tom Chee as a cashier
  • Sold my first Tradebank account; collecting retainer fee Tuesday
  • Dodged a bullet by not betting on the Belmont Stakes; only Orb and Oxbow would have made it to my superfecta box if I had made the bet
  • Moved in with my father for now
  • Scored a bonus $100 from Louisville.com for my photoset from this year’s Beatersville Car and Bike show

Not the best week along the avenue itself, but things are looking better personally, so we have that. In the meantime, I leave you with “Heading Out to the Highway” by Judas Priest from their 1981 album “Point of Entry,” which is also the name of the horse that won the Manhattan Handicap — the race prior to the Belmont Stakes — Saturday afternoon. All the best to you.
