The Week That Was: 18 August 2013 Edition

Only two weeks remain before September arrives upon the avenue, bringing the summer season to a close. Until then, here is a look back upon the week that was…

Late last month, I mentioned that I was going to try to make this month the best month I ever had before moving on toward distant shores. Some of you thought that I was shutting down the avenue for good, but this isn’t the case.

For nearly six years, I’ve had time to make a go at being a success in Louisville, Ky., the city of my birth. In some ways, this did happen via my work with Louisville.com and Insider Louisville, as well as my brief time with The Truth About Cars (where I will resume contributing as soon as possible). I’ve also made some friends and connections in this time, especially within the past two years.

However, I’ve come to realize that Louisville may just not be the city for me to be the success I need and want to be. I’ve gone from being fully employed and relatively on my own, to being underemployed — after being just unemployed — and spending the last three months in my father’s basement attempting to find something, anything, to keep me here.

Thus, as of 31 August 2013, I will no longer call this old Kentucky home my home. Instead, I will point my ship (in order of preference) towards either New York, Boston, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. Not sure how or what I’ll do to get by as far as a place to sleep or work is concerned — with one offer of such so far were I to head west — but there it is.

I will always have love for Louisville and her people; it’s just time for me to move forward and upward, wherever I may go next.

And with that, I leave you with “You Belong To The City” by Glenn Frey, which was composed specifically for the feature-length second season debut episode of “Miami Vice” entitled “The Prodigal Son.” Though a part of the official soundtrack from the 1980s series, the song would not be found on any of Frey’s U.S. solo output until 1995′s “Solo Collection.”

Until we meet again, all the best to you.
