Have you made donuts at home? It’s quite easy, especially if you go the baked donut route. Today I have a simple baked chocolate donut recipe for you that can also be made gluten free.
The other day I stopped at Dunkin Donuts to pick up a birthday gift for one of my daughter’s teachers. My daughter said that her teacher loved Dunkin Donuts coffee, and that a gift card for Dunkin Donuts would make a great gift for her. That worked for me. I picked up a gift card, along with an empty cup, and packaged it up. I thought I’d share as I know that many of us will be looking for end of the year of the school year teacher gift ideas soon, and this is pretty fun and super simple.
When I was there I saw that they were selling PEEPS Donuts. Um, yay!
I was all excited and about to buy one for each of my girls and then remembered those pesky little details, you know, that one has a nut allergy and that the other is on a gluten free diet, so that bright idea was quickly shot down. Thankfully I easily created my own at home, and used our favorite donut flavor – chocolate.
So fun! If you don’t have a donut pan, you can always use a muffin pan instead to make donuts. This is the donut pan I have. I bought the six count pan but really wish I had purchased the 12 count. You can always leave a few of the cavities empty if you aren’t making 12 donuts.
For this recipe, you can make these donuts gluten free by using a gluten free flour blend. I used Cup4Cup Gluten Free Flour to make mine. If gluten is not an issue in your house, all purpose flour works great and I also love using white whole wheat flour to make these.

Ingredients
Instructions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Generously spray donut pan with non stick cooking spray.
Stir dry ingredients together in mixing bowl. Add egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil and vanilla. Using a mixer on medium speed, blend until smooth.
Spoon batter into donut pan or place batter into a piping bag and pipe the donut batter into the donut pan (this is my preferred method).
Bake for approximately 11-13 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into donut comes out clean. Allow to cool slightly and remove carefully from pan.
Add a dusting of powdered sugar, a glaze or chocolate frosting (and sprinkles) if desired. Top with Peeps for even more fun!
