First days

Today is my fourth day in Japan. At the moment I am still amazed by everything around me, but I notice it is quickly fading and I’m already getting used to some things. This fading feeling made me think about this blog and the courses I’m going to follow at Osaka University. The main theme of the courses I’m going to follow is Japanese language and culture.

I find it a fascinating thing how Japanese society and ideology is different from my own Dutch upbringing. And that the way you are raised and the place where you grow up define your set of ‘truths’, as I would like to call them.

Hopefully by emerging myself into another country and at the same time take courses on this subject I will gain a greater understanding of this phenomenon. At the moment I still have three more days before classes start. I think I’m going to spend my days riding around on my bike and get to know the city.

For now these are just some thoughts running through my head, soon I’ll write a post about ‘weird’ things in Japan.

Love,
Anna
