Secret Toffee {to.die.for.}

I warn you now….do NOT make this if you are home alone, ever. Even storing this in the freezer won’t keep you from eating this highly addictive treat!

On the way to my giving circle, one of my best friends had me taste this. oh. my. I have seen recipes like this online, but never actually tasted it. Here is the recipe. This is easy. inexpensive. so good!

Ingredients

*1 cup unsalted butter
*1 cup brown sugar, packed
*about 45 saltine crackers{or use gluten free crackers}
*1/2 bag of 8 0z. toffee bits
*11 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
* 1 cup pecans, or other nuts, chopped

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°

2. In a small sauce pan melt the butter, add the brown sugar and stir well to combine until bubbly.

3. Cover a greased baking sheet {I just line with foil first then spray with cooking spray} with a single layer of saltines, edges touching.

4. Slowly pour the melted butter and brown sugar over the crackers, stopping occasionally to gently spread with a spatula.

5. When every cracker is coated, sprinkle the toffee bits over all the crackers.

6. Warm in pre-heated oven until toffee bits begin to melt slightly {7-10 minutes } Watch carefully to avoid burning!

7. Remove baking sheets from oven, spread chocolate chips and pecans covering all areas.

8. Place baking sheets back in the warm oven {but OFF} to melt chocolate chips slightly. After chocolate chips are melted, remove from oven {I add sea salt at this point to the top} and let cool.

9. When baking sheets are slightly cooled, cover with foil, and refrigerate for about 5 minutes to harden up a bit.

10. Use a spatula or knife to gently cut apart along the edges of the individual crackers.

Then….do not eat all of them. Share, pack up in pretty packages to give away. Or serve to guests and family. These are wonderful for the upcoming holidays, when calories don’t count, healthy sometimes means chocolate, and holiday magic dust sprinkles on a glitter of “go ahead and be a little naughty.”
