How to REALLY Enjoy Your Holiday

I’ve been looking forward to the July 4th holiday for weeks now. Not only is it one of my favorite holidays of the year, but also it’s a welcomed break amid a month of work craziness.

There’s a lot of pressure to relax and kick back on weekends like this one, especially with Pinterest and Instagram telling you at every moment that you must be having fun. Before you embark on your red, white and blue endeavor, whether it’s at your apartment or on the beach, here are a few reminders to help you kick back and really enjoy your weekend:

Watch your expectations – There’s nothing worse than pumping up a weekend or trying to “force it” when you have three open days to do what you wish. FOMO is a dirty word. Do not overextend yourself or bend over backwards to make an “epic weekend” happen. Epic things happen because they’re spontaneous! Enjoy the quiet if that’s what you have

Turn off everything – Remember to take pictures for memory sake, but avoid uploading every cocktail, picnic blanket, and beach scene you see this weekend. It’s not a competition! Lay back and enjoy the summer’s breeze before you decide to plug in and tweet about enjoying it

Do something new! - Even if you’re just in your hometown this weekend, why not try a new restaurant or go to a part of the city you rarely see? Or what about testing out a recipe you never tried and setting up a little picnic outdoors? New experiences are great bonding moments and lead to fabulous memories

No email – Check it once in the morning and once in the late afternoon. No more than that

Be grateful for what you have - This weekend is all about celebrating the land of the free and the home of the brave. Sit back and be grateful for the opportunities you’ve been given and the beauty of what’s around you. USA!
