Review: Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

After falling head over heels in love with the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation I thought I'd give the primer from the same line a go. After not trying Rimmel products for a very long time I'm starting to realise that Rimmel actually do some really good products, although quite controversially I'm not much of a fan of their Apocalips, even though I own 4 or 5 - go figure! Todays review is of a primer that I was very eager to try though!
// var _gaq = _gaq || (); _gaq.push(('_setAccount', 'UA-37824282-1')); _gaq.push(('_trackPageview')); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')(0); s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); //
As always I've included a summary at the end :)

The Basics
This primer is a part of the Rimmel Stay Matte line that includes a foundation and powder as well. It comes in a pretty standard squeezy tube with 30ml of product inside. It claims to give a matte, shine control complexion for upto 8 hours - this is less than most primers claim, but it's nice to see it be more realistic! The product does have silicone in it (Dimethicone), although the texture doesn't feel nearly as slippery as other silicone based primers. This is priced at £5.99 and available from Boots & Superdrug.

What did I Think?
After falling head over heels in love with the Foundation (I wear it about 5 times a week!) I had quite high expectations for the primer. And I have to say, I have been disappointed. The review has taken a while to be posted as for the longest time I didn't think this was doing much, and I was trying it in different ways to try and form more of an opinion. Eventually I decided to put the product on just half of my face and go to work for a hot 10 hour shift in a kitchen. I found that I had an even slight oiliness across both sides of my face, which to me clarifies my original suspicions that this primers doesn't do a lot to keep me matte. In this little experiment I did, I did notice that the primer held my foundation on a bit better than bare skin.

The Good - Holds my foundation on, not too expensive, practical packaging, not heavy.
The Not so Good - Didn't keep me matte, didn't really cover over my pores.
Would I Repurchase? Nope.
Price & Availability - £5.99, Boots & Superdrug.
It pained me to write this review, because I really did have high hopes and expectations for this primer because the foundation is absolutely brilliant. Possibly even my favourite foundation of all time - a big claim I know, but I just can't get enough of it! But I figure honest reviews are best, even if they're negative! I hope it helped :)
