Worth the Hype? Maybelline Color Elixer Lip Lacquers

We finally got the Color Elixers here in the UK, but do they live up to the hype we were excited for?! You'll have to read on to find out - I can't be giving away all the secrets in the first few sentences! I often get jealous of the brands and products you can buy in other countries. Maybelline is readily available here in the UK, but we often see new launches take a while to appear on our shelves. I'm not the most patient person either!

The Basics Despite being cunningly disguised as a lipstick these are actually lipglosses! Well officially they're called lip lacquers, but I'm going with gloss! These has those cute heart shaped wands that fit perfectly around the shape of the lips, depositing the perfect amount of gloss. Each one has 5ml of product and a sweet vanilla scent to it. There are 11 shades listed on the Boots Website, they are priced at £6.99 each, available from Boots & Superdrug.

The Formula On first application these reminded me very much of the MUA Intense Lipglosses (£2) - I love these so it's not an insult! I was a little disappointed as the Maybelline ones weren't quite what I was expecting, I was thinking more along the lines of a standard lip lacquer - super rich and pigmented. These are instead a little sheerer, however still a well pigmented gloss. The finish is also super glossy! As for the texture, these are a little thicker than I'd usually enjoy, but they are not sticky, nor do they feel uncomfortable on the lips. The thicker texture gives these a good 3 hours wear time, which for a lipgloss is rather impressive!

Blush Essence This is a soft medium toned pink shade, it's slightly sheerer than the other shades so it's not too in your face pink. It also has a soft shimmer to it, very wearable.

Caramel Infused A slightly coral toned, pink nude shade, can you see a theme here! Very my lips but better and perfect to throw on with just about any look!

The Good - Pigmented, vanilla scent, last 3 hours, not sticky, not drying, 10 shades available.
The Not so Good - Not really lacquers, more of a gloss!

Worth the Hype? They are rather good, although not quite what I was expecting!
