Real Life Style Icon: Rowan of 'Red Reidinghood'

This is one of many Real Life Style Icon interviews in which we talk to smart, funny, painfully stylish women and distract them while we raid their closets.

Name: Rowan Reiding
Age: 20 Location: Leeuwarden, the Netherlands Online haunts: blog // facebook // twitter // instagram // youtube
Three reasons that you're awesome:I can fold my tongue into a clover, I can read Latin and Greek and I just recently reached 1.000 followers on Bloglovin’, which I think is kind of awesome.

What are you wearing right now, as you type this? Eh, something not very fashionable: My OnePiece jumpsuit and a pair of UGG’s. Ultimate relax wear, since I don’t have anywhere to go right now.
What is the last item of clothing from you bought? A pair of high waisted black jeans.

What is the item of clothing you most covet at the moment?
That definitely is a Vlieger&Vandam guardian angel tote (the clutch version will do as well).

Tell us about a favorite childhood memory about your clothes.
Haha, are shoes okay as well? When I was like 6 years old I desperately wanted a pair of sneakers with lights in the back, they turned on when your feet hit the ground. Remember those? They were quite a big hit when I was a child. My mother thought they were too ugly though (I now see why), so she didn’t want to buy me a pair. So I did a little DIY project. Of course I wasn’t an electrician, so I decided to imitate the lights by drawing the shapes of the lights on the heel of my white sneakers with a crayon. I was so proud of myself, my mum wasn’t…
What is your best thrifting score?
Definitely my red leather jacket! I’ve been eyeing one from Zara since a couple of years ago, but it was so expensive. So when I spotted one (which even looks better than the Zara version) at a flea market, I immediately bought it.

Could you tell us your top three style tricks/DIYs? Since I like to wear all black everything outfits, something very important to me is working with different materials to make an outfit interesting. I love to combine hard materials, like leather, with soft materials, like knitwear.

I also have a little secret which I’d like to share with you: Most of the soles of my heeled shoes are quite slippery, so I put a pair of no skid soles from Lady’s Secret underneath them that keep me from falling.

Oh and for those of you who, like me, live in cold countries: Wear thermowear! It’s a lifesaver during those super cold days! And nobody will notice ;)

Thanks so much for sharing Rowan!
