Meeting Derek Lam At Neiman Marcus San Francisco

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I had the pleasure of attending an event last night by Neiman Marcus and 7×7 viewing Derek Lam’s 10 Crosby Spring 2014 Collection. The event included a chat hosted by 7×7 fashion director Lauren Goodman. It was wonderful to hear the designer talk about all things fun including his favorite food (dim sum), his role model (architects), his life moto (keep truckin’), his favorite place to live (France), his meaning of happiness (the overjoy he sees from his dog running down the beach), his favorite restaurant in SF (Zuni Cafe). On the panel with Derek was also 10 Crosby’s VP of Design, Liz Giardina. Really stylish and chic and dressed head to toe in 10 Crosby’s leather overall and an amazing black trimmed open jacket (I want!). Coming from a background in sculpture, I could see how Liz used form and shapes in her design. Here’s also a 20 questions interview she did recently over at the Glamourai and talks about “the 10 Crosby woman”.

I had a lovely time attending the event with Catherine, who’s another amazing designer (and friend) I love and constantly see her using fashion to inspire her work in interiors. My favorite thing walking through her office every morning is seeing all the fashion books nicely displayed against a dark wall in her conference room!

It was such a pleasure to meet Derek Lam after the talk. His mom, sister, and niece were also there to accompany him – so nice to see the support from the family. As a SF local myself, there’s definitely a proud feeling to see someone from SF making such a big impact in the fashion industry. From dressing celebrities like Kate Bosworth to public figures like ‘chelle-bama (as Derek calls The First Lady), it’s incredible the success he’s had with his vision. One big takeaway for me from his chat – “create your own destiny”.

Have a great weekend, everyone! xo Jeanne
