10 Things I Never Thought I Could Learn From Teenage Girls

Guest Blog Post

Teenage girls are awesome, right? I mean, they have so many friends, relationships, drama, etc. They have a bff’s one day, and that same girl will be a staunch nemesis the next. They seem to live this lifestyle complete with agendas, parties, and tons of friends. I was once a teenage girl, (go figure) and my 10-year-old daughter will soon be one. My 14-year-old niece and her friends are the reason behind this article. Spending the day with them has taught me a lot about my feelings, my friendships and learning to not give a damn sometimes.

Here are 10 things I learned from Teenage Girls:

10. Be Active

Teenage girls are EXTREMELY self-conscious about their weight. My niece eats up everything, but she also runs track and plays volleyball EVERYDAY so she can pretty much eat what she wants. But being active during the teenage years will most certainly have an impact on you later.

9. Family First

No matter how many friends you get and how close they are, family should always come first. There is nothing like knowing someone will be there for you, no matter what.

8. Spend time with friends

Even though my niece told me that family was most important, she still makes time to hang with her friends. In her words, we get on her nerves sometimes.

7. If someone is hating, Let them hate!

This one is pretty self explanatory (smile).

6. Shop

These girls say it is their DUTY to look good at all times, and doing so requires a lot shopping. I’m here for that.

5. Don’t fall for the guys that talk game

If 14-year-old girls can recognize game, can’t we all?

4. Keep your circle small

Hang out with people you trust. Being friends just for the sake of having friends is pointless. (Aren’t these mini divas amazing?)

3. Don’t attend every party you are invited to

This one confused me a little because I thought it was a teenager’s dream to be the most popular person AND get invited to all the parties. However, as I was told by a group of teenagers, sometimes NOT going makes you even more popular. According to them, thirsty girls go to ALL the parties.

2. Listen to good music

Music helps everything; relationships, school, etc. Listening to music can help heal a broken heart, you forget why your mom yelled at you, and makes cleaning your room a breeze all at the same time.

1. Social Media is for entertainment purposes only

I literally laughed out loud when they said this. Teenagers put every minute of their day on social media. However, they only show what they want and it’s all because they see you looking, hence the entertainment part.

As adults, we feel obligated to know more about life and to teach our kids better. Sometimes, we can all learn a little bit more by listening to your younger selves.

Would you add anything to this list?
