Pow Wow Hawaii Yarnbombs, Tags and Love!

Pow Wow Hawaii 2013 has come and gone... Yes, it's true, I spent pretty much the entire week sick with a horrible sinus infection, in bed, hating it. But despite it all, I came, I yarnbombed, I tagged, and I conquered the germs tryin' to keep me down. ;P It was such an incredible event! Words fail me when it comes to describing the artists and artwork this year... awesome, killer, fresh, sick, dope, fab, cray.... umm... seriously... it was all of the above and then some. I feel like a special word needs to be created to get the point across! More than congratulations go out to the entire Pow Wow team, Jasper, Amy, Jeff, Kamea, Tiffany, Christina, and Mikey... you guys are ahhhmazing! And to think, Jasper and Amy were pretty much planning a wedding at the same time. Whaa?!! They're a power team fo'real!
Here are some shots of my finished yarnbombs for Pow Wow Hawaii this year. My camera wasn't interested in working with me most of the time, so, the phone pic above was the best I captured of this year's Fresh Cafe bike lock yarnbomb. And I wasn't sure how I felt about the person who left that bike locked to it. It had been there for 3 days when I went to finish attaching the lower pieces. Easy enough to work around, but not so fab for me trying to get photos of the finished work. Oh well... such is life, right?!
My favorite part of the piece was the cloud seat. It really seemed to engage people. I caught more than a few people getting up on the bike, sitting on the cloud for photos... it was great to see people interacting with my work!
This year's meter monster lasted all of about 12 hours. I'm not sure who took him... a fan or Tha Man... I knew he would eventually be removed, but wow... not even a full day. I was kind of bummed knowing that meant not very many people got to enjoy him the way I'd hoped.
The wonderful photo above was taken and thoughtfully shared with me, by Anthony Nguyen. It was also included in his super rad post about Pow Wow on Fatlace.com...
Along with this photo, also taken by Anthony, of my giant shave ice! Cheeee!
I was also able to replant some of the knitted mushrooms I made for TheFuzz yarnbomb exhibition at the Honolulu Museum of Art's Spalding House last summer! I just walked around and planted them wherever... I hope nice people found them and took them home to plant in their favorite sunny spot.
And lastly but definitely not least... I went to Pow Wow super excited to be not only yarnbombing this year, but also to be representing Hawaii as a painter too. Unfortunately, when I came down sick the second day I was back, I had to accept the fact that I wasn't going to have the time to paint. But I was determined to get some paint up on a wall somewhere if it was the last thing I did. And it was the last thing I did, on my last day there. The night before, I made this quick stencil. It's a monster, no surprise ;) I like monsters... It was inspired by one of my favorite rubber finger puppets. Quick and dirty, I'll admit. But I threw it up proudly!
And again at the Pow Wow block party later that night on the giant contributor's wall.

You can check out last year's meter monster on BuzzFeed.com! It was featured today in an awesome round up of yarnbombs from around the world. I'm super stoked to be included with such an amazing group of fiber artists! Thanks Alanna!
