SALAMBA SIRSASANA - Headstand

I finally got my Salamba Sirsasana down! BOOM!! Salamba means with support and Sirsasana means head. Headstand is one of the most important asanas (postures), and one of my favorite poses. It takes a lot of core, arm work, balance and coooncentration. Really quiets the mind and is a great stress reliever and can help with mild depression. It also stimulates the pituitary gland and pineal glad, and is therapeutic for asthma, infertility, insomnia and sinusitis. Yeah, all those things are great of course, but what I really looove about it is that it increases nutrients and blood flow to the scalp, stimulating hair growth and reducing grey hair. Awesome right!?

To come into a Salamba Sirsasana sit down on your heels and knees, interlace your fingers, put your forearms onto the floor, elbows shoulder width apart, so it looks like a tripod. Set the crown of the head on the floor and snuggle the back of your head. Lift your hips upward, knees off the floor and walk you feet towards your elbows, engage your core and lift through the top of the thighs. Bringing both legs and feet up simultaneously, you may want to keep your knees bent to find balance and then bring your legs straight up. Make sure you are stacking your hips above your shoulders, this makes it way easier to find balance, so the pelvis is in line with the crown of the head.

Like... super easy. ;)

Avoid this pose if you have high blood pressure, back or neck injuries or if your pregnant. Info from Light on Yoga and Yoga Journal.
