Video: White Ink + Stencils and DIY Glitter Paper

Hi! Today’s video showcases two fun techniques… using white ink with stencils and DIY glitter paper. Both are simple techniques and great ways to stretch your products. (This card is also over on the Simon Says Stamp blog – I am a guest there today.)

I have always been a fan of good white pigment ink. (My favorites are the Hero Arts Unicorn White and Colorbox Frost White Inks.) This ink looks great stamped on colored cardstocks… but it turns out it looks even better when inked over a stencil with an inking tool! The white-on-color is eye-catching. For this card, I also sprinkled a tiny bit of sparkle embossing powder on the wet white ink and heat set it. This gave a little bit of sparkle while still maintaining the non-shiny look.

For the white inking, I used the SSS Extra Large Dots stencil. I then added some random floating hearts with the SSS Balloons and Patterns small heart stencil and Peacock Feathers Distress Ink.

Now… about that DIY glitter paper…

I really love the look of glitter paper (the kind that doesn’t rub off!) but I was going through it fast and had a limited color selection. So I decided to make my own! I pressed Versamark Ink on various colorful cardstocks and added my favorite sparkle embossing powder. After heating it, I had my own glitter paper and could die cut any shape I wanted.

I cut my glitter shapes using the SSS Sun and SSS Mini Hearts dies. I stamped the greeting on a yellow circle and assembled it all on the card. See that bit of shiny dimension on the “sunshine” die cut? I did that with a few layers of clear embossing powder. I loved this trick and will be doing it again.
