VIDEO: Shaped Cards + Discount Code (Jennifer McGuire Ink)

One great way to make your handmade card stand out from store-bought cards is to make it in a unique shape. Today I decided to form a floral wreath with a stamped, see-through window center. This card is actually made up of two donut-shaped cardstock pieces that I cut by hand. The first “donut” piece is for the front of the card. To create the “floating” sentiment, I cut some scrap plastic and adhered it on top of the white circle opening. The sentiment is from the Reverse Confetti Lots to Say stamp set and white Staz-On ink.

Next, I die-cut several of the Petals ‘n Posies dies from Reverse Confetti out of Neenah White Cardstock. I stamped them with the matching stamps using several inks… Coral Reef from Simon Says Stamp and Lime Green, Green Hills, and Butter Bar from Hero Arts. I also used Sweet Gelato from WPlus9 for the berries. I love these colors! I think the hardest part of creating a wreath is getting started. Once I got a few pieces adhered, I got the rhythm down and it went quickly. I popped up a few flowers with some foam adhesive to add dimension and added dots to the flowers with a Gold Marker.

I took my other donut shaped circle and put a score line towards the top to create a hinge so the card can open similar to a traditional card. I applied a strong adhesive above the score line and added it to the back of the wreath so the card opens with ease. The curve on the bottom of the inside panel is a good spot for a greeting.

I think a different, unexpected card like this will be sure to put a smile on the recipient’s face.
