Sleek Matte Me in Rioja Red Review & Swatch

BIG hello and wave to long lost fellow bloggers and readers! Where have I been and what have I missed! It’s like I’ve fallen off the face of this earth.

Sorry for the lack of posting in the last few months, I’ve had a bit of a shuffle in life and have somehow ended up in Hong Kong of all places! To cut a long story short, I’ve been pretty busy finding my feet and have not really been in my best blogger mode. Anyhow, I’m back now and I’m super excited to start reviewing all my new beauty faves and there are plenty. One of the best (and worst) things about Hong Kong is that you are spoilt for choice for beauty and brands, everything is so easily accessible. It’s not doing my pocket any favours.

However I will go into all that later because Today I actually wanted to rave a little about Sleek Cosmetics Matte Lip Cream. I received this as PR Sample for review purposes however I’ve always been a huge fan of Sleek and their great quality products and brilliant prices so I was over the moon to hear that they would like to see a wee review from little old me.

Sooo lets get to the point of this post and stop my waffling.

Product:

Sleek Matte Me Lip cream in rioja red

Price: £7.49

Where to buy: www.sleekmakeup.com

What is it?

Sleek Matte Me Lip cream is a liquid lipstick that goes on like a cream and dries to a matte/velvet like finish. It comes in a tube similar to a lipgloss and is applied with the wand applicator. I am reviewing Rioja Red which is a bright red that is lovely but not for the shy, wall flower.

Consistency:

This stuff is seriously potent! It is so rich and pigmented that you need to be EXTRA careful when applying. It’s definitely true when it says that you only need one coat of the stuff because one slick is plenty to get a decent finish. The texture is super smooth and the cream glides on easily. It dries to a matte finish but not so fast that it becomes difficult to spread and even out.

Ease of use:

I’m not gonna lie, this colour wasn’t the most forgiving colour to apply. It’s so bright that one wrong move could make the difference between Coco Chanel and Coco the clown. The formula was easy enough to apply as it glides on very well however I suggest lining the lips first with a liner as a guide to avoid it getting very messy.

Results:

True to colour and super smooth. It gives a velvety soft finish on the lips. I would be extra cautious if you have dry lips though as I can imagine it would cling like bitch on any lumps or bumps on the surface. I used a lip balm beforehand and managed to get a smooth finish however I did find that it dried a bit tacky and my lips would stick if I smacked them together.

Overall thoughts:

Loved the colour and the velvety matte finish, the texture is like nothing I’ve used before so I was intrigued to try it. I hear some people compare the finish to Lime Crimes Velvetines range, however I’ve not given those a go either, but I am loving Sleeks more affordable range. There are 6 colours available and already I have my eye on Brink Pink and Party Pink.

Sorry I cant tell you how long lasting these are in a real setting as I’ve not walked out the house parading in it yet. I had it on for a few hours around the house and it stayed put till I removed it with Makeup remover. Be warned the stuff will not budge with just a tissue wipe, unless you want it all over your face. I suppose thats a good sign for longevity though. I’m interested to see how it fairs after a meal too. I’ll have to try and get back you on that one!

What are your thoughts? Have you tried Seek Matte Me Lip cream? Leave me your comments, links and reviews!

For the first time in ages…Thanks for reading guys!!
