Olympus PEN lite E-PL7 – First impressions

I am a bit of a camera geek…I have camera’s, lenses and equipment scattered all around my house. If I ever pick up a magazine I will walk straight past the fashion aisle and to photography and technology. I was so excited when my pal Julia from Stylonylon invited me to try out a camera from the PEN generation. Best of all…I got to take it home!

Julia is one of the brand ambassadors for Olympus UK. She curated together lots of brands for a blogger event to sample the newly released Olympus PEN E-PL7. As soon as I walked into the Olympus show gallery I was handed a brand spanking new Lite to get to work with. We were using the olympus 14-42mm 3.5-5.6 lens, which it’s is not the usual aperture I would shoot in. But what’s great with this nifty little mirrorless camera is that you can change lenses just like a DSLR – including blogger favourite wide aperture lenses. You can also get an adapter allows you to use any other lens you may already have, including other brands.

Group shot using the camera wifi that connects to your iphone or ipad using the OI share app! Everyone else looking beautiful and me with a giant head poking out of the side.

Great first impressions of the camera, I can’t wait until the wider aperture lens arrives so I can really get a feel for it. It won’t replace my Canon eos 6D as my main camera, but for when I don’t want to lug around my DSLR then it will be perfect. I actually bought the Canon eos M for this purpose and is a competitor of the Olympus PEN generation. The difference is the canon counterpart doesn’t have built in wifi or a flip screen. Both things that are a massive bonus for bloggers and social media addicts.

Once I have the hang of all the settings and know what I am talking about I will put together a post displaying it’s features and what you can do with it. Also how beautiful does the design look?
