#fullmarathonproject daily dose

Treadmill, dreadmill.

I love running outside. And a part of me dies a little when I'm on the dreadmill but I can't deny the dreadmill's pros.

  • Pace: On the dreadmill you can control, set, and maintain your pace. Pace is really important if you're trying to improve a personal best (time, distance, etc.) or if you're doing interval running (more on this later).

Another benefit is you make a conscious decision to slow yourself down with a push of a button vs. outside, you might reduce your pace due to fatigue without even noticing.
  • Less Impact on the Joints: With the dreadmill you get a flat and forgiving surface that will reduce impact on joints and reduce risk of injury versus running on the road, sidewalk or concrete pavements.

It's ideal for those of us recovering from an injury. Every time I lace up to run, Chris is in my ear about utilizing & gradually upping my mileage on the dreadmill rather than pounding it out on the pavement around the lake.
  • Simulate hills aka incline: Hill running makes you strong--simple as that. Hills give you the strength to hold your form together when you're tired.
  • Climate Control: say we sing hallelujah to this one? Running during the summer in Oklahoma is a heat stroke waiting to happen, so it's nice to have an open inside space where you can run and not have a sluggish run due to heat.

Logged 3.5 miles on the dreadmill today. I'm trying to be mindful and listen to my body, aka what my knee can do at this point. It was a good day. I put the heating pad on my knee while I was taking my pre-workout shake (20-30 minutes before my run) to help warm the muscles. I planned for only 3 miles but was in a good groove so added half a mile. I must give some credit to Luke Bryan's
"Country Girl" song. It got me fired me up to finish fast!

Looking forward to an epsom salt bath & tomorrow's rest day!
