Introducing Imprints

“Folky/Rocky/Shanty/Piratey…quality drinking music,” is how Imprints' vocalist and violinist, Vince Martin describes the band’s sound. That curious mix is a result of the band’s many influences; Vince who is a classically trained musician and Andy Truckle, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, are both into New Metal. Imprints' drummer, Tom Cornwall on the other hand is a big fan of Disclosure’s debut album, London Grammar and Clean Bandit. A crazy mix right?
He goes on to mention that they have, “even had people dancing at their gigs that are into Folk or Acoustic music,” but they also received a good reception from the crowd at a recent gig that featured mainly Metal bands.
Anyone wondering what Imprints' music sounds like should keep an eye on the band’s Facebook page over the next few weeks . They will be uploading the title track of their debut EP Oncoming Tide and making it a free download, for one week only. The band is quickly learning about the music industry; they thought, “once the music was ready, we could just put it out.” But having to get the legal side sorted, with things like having to sort out the copyrights and ensuring they were signed up for PRS (so they could be paid royalties for their music) quickly put those plans to bed.
Whereas many musicians move to London to try and make their break, Vince moved to Bristol where he met the rest of the band at uni. He seems happy with his move and speaks fondly of the band’s hometown. “Bristol is very supportive of young musicians; there’s so many open mic nights and people making exciting music – from DJ’s, to singer songwriters, to acoustic musicians.” Whereas, London as he sees it is “very cut throat, if you mess up then your opportunity’s gone”.
With a host of live dates planned over the summer and the band releasing their debut EP in recent weeks - these are exciting times for Imprints. That added to their refreshing take on Folk music, gives me reason to believe it won’t be long before Imprints make their mark on the industry.
Imprints Oncoming Tide EP is available to download now from ImprintsUK.Bandcamp.com.
