A Minty Moment

The other day, while preparing dinner at work, I saw that the mint plant my boss keeps outside was starting to wilt away. In my attempts to save what was left, I grabbed the scissors, clipped the majority of the mint and made a big batch of mint tea. I hadn't thought much more of it until the next day when I made my way into the house, passing the mint on my right. I stopped almost shocked at what I saw before me. It had rained over night and somehow the same plant I had clipped down to bare stems had already grown in abundance... overnight!

I have always known that mint grows like a weed, but I have never seen it grow that fast. Something miraculous had taken place. So, as I went about my day I kept thinking back on how after being pruned, the mint plant not only grew back, but flourished!!

John 15:1-2 says, "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit." These words could not hit me more deeply then what they do right now. One of these days, I will sit down and write about "The Summer of 2013", but our story isn't over yet. We are still in the midst of it, being pruned, being cut back, being stripped.

Matthew 6:30-33 says, "And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won't he more surely care for you? You have so little faith! "So don't worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern."

If God cares so wonderfully for this mint plant at my work, miracle-growing it over night, won't he surely care for you? For me? It's hard to cling to truth on a daily basis, believe me, the last two months, three months, have been a serious emotional roller coaster, but God places these truth reminders in our lives for a reason and so we must stand firm on them. And in the process, enjoy a nice cup of mint tea! Which by the way is a great stress reliever. How thoughtful is our God? ♥, mK
