Spring has officially arrived in Seattle! Awesome! But just in case you’re not a Seattleite: what the Spring season really brings is a clear, mostly sunny morning (so you dress for nice weather) and then mid-day, once you out in public – the skies go bipolar, turn grey and start dropping water all over everything (including your Birkenstocks). Luckily I’m a seasoned, homegrown Seattle-native who walks to work, so I’m always packing layers. Get caught in an unexpected rainstorm? Girrllllll please. Got my pocket umbrella & raincoat tucked neatly into my purse. Oh – is that the SUN paying us a rare visit in March?! Out comes the sunglasses from the dark, lonely corner of my bag! I’m like friggin’ Mary Poppins of the Northwest.

Now let’s talk clothes. One of my favorite (thrifted) rainy-day items is this cherry red Ralph Lauren coat. It’s pretty funky – living on the border of sweet-90s-throwback-style and part of Missy Elliot’s jumpsuit from the early 2000s (scroll to the last photo to see a close-up of the awesome detailing).

…and did you notice my awesome tank top? As a 90s child, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the cartoon show AND the awesome animated-ish movie) was a staple, along with the best kid-shows in history on Nickelodeon, Pokemon cards, Super Nintendo and the soundtrack to Space Jam. So when I spotted this tank hanging at Forever21 I grabbed it, squealed in delight, and have now been finding ways to incorporate it into my outfits without being that weird-nostalgia-chick.

And finally…let’s discuss the shoes. Slip-ons are back and they are here to stay, at least for a while. Similar to the classic Vans sneaker, every designer is slipping into the game, trying to create the perfect balance between feminine and street-style with animal prints, florals, metallics and textures. The slip-ons I finally decided on were a result of a (fabulous) collaboration between Chia Ferragni of The Blonde Salad and Steve Madden. I’m completely obsessed – they are so comfortable and versatile – I’m gonna wear these puppies out pretty quickly during Spring and Summer. I think the perfect pair of slip-ons should be a staple for this year’s sunny-weather wardrobe, check out the shop for additional style options!

PS – always remember: Donatello is the best, dude.

xoxo
