Festive Holiday Homemade Cranberry Orange Soap Recipe
Ingredients:
19.85 oz. white melt and pour soap base
1-2 Tablespoons orange peel/zest, to suit
.05 oz. peppermint essential oil
.2 oz. cranberry fragrance oil of choice
.35 oz. orange fragrance oil of choice (or sweet orange eo)
red liquid soap colorant
yellow liquid soap colorant
Instructions:
I used a Tovolo King Silicone Ice Cube Tray for this homemade cranberry orange soap recipe. It yields six square shaped soaps.
You’ll be making this soap recipe in layers. After pouring each layer you’ll want to spritz with regular rubbing alcohol to remove any air bubbles then allow each layer to harden before preparing and pouring the next layer. Spritz with alcohol again before pouring each new layer. Weigh all ingredients unless otherwise noted.
You can place this mold in the fridge to speed up the time it takes for the soap to set. This can vary depending on the base you use as some bases harden more quickly than others. However I don’t recommend freezing the soap.
For your first layer use a digital scale to weigh out 3.8 oz. of melt and pour soap base. Cut into chunks and combine in a glass Pyrex measuring cup. Heat in the microwave in short bursts until the soap is fully melted. Be sure not to let the soap boil or bubble.
Once melted add 1/4 teaspoon of walnut shell powder (or try using fine ground pumice powder if you need a nut free product.) Next weigh out .05 oz. of peppermint essential oil and add to the melted soap as well. Stir well then pour evenly into each of the six cavities in the mold. Spritz with alcohol and allow to set up. Once ready prepare your second layer.
For your second layer you will weigh and melt 6.3 oz. of melt and pour soap base. Weigh out and add .15 oz. of cranberry fragrance oil and about 4 drops of red liquid soap colorant. Stir well to combine. Spritz the first layer of soap with alcohol then pour your second layer of soap evenly into each of the six mold cavities.
Your third layer of soap will consist of 2.25 oz. of melt and pour soap base, .05 oz. cranberry fragrance oil, 4 drops of red liquid soap colorant and one teaspoon of fine red glitter.
Your fourth layer of soap is comprised of 3 oz. of melt and pour soap base, .1 oz. orange fragrance oil by weight, approximately 10 drops of yellow liquid soap colorant and one drop of red liquid soap colorant or color to suit. If you prefer to use an essential oil you can use .05 oz. of sweet orange essential oil in lieu of the fragrance oil.
The final layer contains your orange zest. I made my own zest by drying the peels from my clementines on a baking pan I set on a radiator. If you don’t have radiator heat you can put your peels own low in the oven til dry. Alternately you can purchase orange zest as well.
For the final and top layer of soap combine 4.5 oz. melt and pour soap base, one to two Tablespoons of chopped orange zest to suit, .15 oz. orange fragrance oil (or half the amount if using sweet orange essential oil), and approximately 15 drops yellow liquid soap colorant and 2 drops of red liquid soap colorant to suit.
Top this final layer with a large section of dried orange peel to accent your finished soaps if desired before the soap finishes setting up.
Once the soaps have cooled and hardened completely unmold and wrap as desired to give as homemade Christmas gifts or DIY stocking stuffers.
