Hi everyone…I am so excited to have Andrea here from DIY Craft projects.
She is going to show us how to make some cute snowmen today. As much as I hate the snow, it is here for now so I we might as well work with it and make some cute decor.
paint your blocks. I chose white. I have seen some that are off white that look great as well.
I only did two thin coats of the paint because I personally like to be able to see through to the wood a little bit.
While the blocks are drying, you can get started on the things you want to fancy it up. I used cardboard for their noses and buttons.
I cut out the carrot nose and painted that orange, then cut out hearts, painted them red, added white lines and then drew with a pen more lines to make it a plaid look.
For the hats, I had found some old black dress pants and used the material for the hats. I also cut out some burlap to fit for the scarves. I like to layer things up so I did the one kind of burlap with a different kind overtop to give it some character. You can use any color or kind of material for the hat and scarf.
Once your blocks are dry, and before you glue everything on there, sand the edges. This is optional but I like to give it some character. After you’ve sanded, you can start gluing your buttons, nose, and scarf on. You don’t have to use cardboard. If you simply want to paint everything on, that works out just as well. Use your imagination and do what you prefer.
I painted the eyes and smile on. For the smile, I used the other end of my paint brush and it worked out perfect.
For the hats, I tied a knot towards the top with some of my extra burlap, then cut the edges to make it frilly.
And this is how mine turned out! I thought they turned out stinkin’ cute and were so easy and cheap to make!
Thanks Andrea…those snowmen are adorable!!
