Fun Kids’ Activity They’ll Love (and so will you!)

This is such a simple kids activity idea I debated whether to post about it or not, but honestly it keeps my kids entertained for huge chunks of time and it’s so fun they constantly ask to play it. Plus it takes only two supplies that you might already have on hand, so I can bust it out whenever I need 20 minutes of peace and quiet to make dinner or take a phone call. It’s a geometry activity I used with my second graders when I was a teacher, so imagine my surprise when my 3 and 5 year old loved it just as much as my students did!

And also? It helps teach math and fine motor skills. BAM.

Simply place a bunch of toothpicks and mini-marshmallows on the table. Have your kids start by putting a mini-marshmallow on each end of a toothpick (like a barbell). Poke a new toothpick into one of the attached mini-marsmallows, and keep going! Soon, you’ll have a triangle. Then make it into a square. Can they make a rectangle? Go 3-D. How about… a pyramid? A cube? As they practice, skills grow, and geometry is learned.

Don’t you wish all math was this fun?

Enjoy!
