Neck-shots

The first two parts in Ulrich Seidl’s Paradies triology, Liebe & Glaube are filled with amazing stills and frames. In particular frames and stills where the viewer is set behind the characters. This special neckshot is quite similar to what Vilhelm Hammershøi often used in his paintings.

Vilhelm Hammershøi – the neck shot. The view from behind only showing the back of females characters is one of Hammershøi’s signature trades. Hammershøi also had the most fantastic understanding of lights and shadow.
